The Color Run announced that it would be going to Dubai so naturally we decided that it would be the perfect excuse for a girls weekend away!
On November 19 we said goodbye to our husbands and kids and off we went!
We were are a little bit excited to be escaping KSA!
I was super excited to hang out with one of my favorite people all weekend!
Hello Dubai!!
We had an apartment booked at Horizon Tower and we had a terrible time checking in. Me, Lina, Tanya, and Tami arrived at the building first. It was obvious from the beginning that something was going on between the guy that we rented the apartment from and the building security, but we didn't know what the problem was. Eventually the apartment guy told us he would bring us up, but I had just talked to the other girls and knew they were close so I suggested that we wait for them. The apartment guy insisted that we go up and his colleague would bring the others up when they arrived. At one point the guy told us that his colleague was going to bring them in his car through the parking garage and up the elevator in there. We realized that the guys were trying to sneak the other girls up to the apartment. The whole thing was extremely sketchy! Supposedly the building management changed their policy on how many people are allowed to stay in the apartments and their limit is now 4. They insisted that the owner of the apartment was notified, but he said he wasn't. I guess the security saw him try to take them through the parking garage and met them there to refuse entry again. It was a huge mess! Security was not going to budge so the apartment owner arranged for the other girls to stay at another apartment down the street. It was completely absurd, but it was the only choice we had. The security guy was a complete jerk and gave us a hard time the whole weekend. I would NEVER, EVER stay there again or recommend it to anyone. I honestly am not sure if there really was a change in policy or if the security just decided to harass us. My gut tells me it's the latter.
It really was a shame because the apartment was fabulous with a great view of the marina. We were all furious that we couldn't enjoy it together.
After all the commotion we were starving so we went out for dinner and managed to have a little fun and salvage the night.
We enjoyed a nice snack and the beautiful views the next morning, but we were missing half of our group :(
We went out for brunch at The Observatory in the Marriott hotel. Now this is a place that I'd recommend! We had a blast!
They have a mojito cart that comes around and Bianca got in on the action. With a little help from the bartender, she made her own mojito!
Love all these ladies!
The Observatory is on the 52nd floor of the hotel and overlooks the palm. Stunning!
Their brunch is about four hours of all you can eat and drink. It was a great way to spend the day!
And they had an entire pork section!
They passed these little desert balls around we got a kick out of them!
All of a sudden Bianca started choking on her drink and Tami and I noticed since we were sitting across from her. We asked her if she was okay and if she was choking and she said, "No! I'm not joking!" When we realized that she was fine we started cracking up laughing. And I mean we were laughing!! It had been a long time since I laughed that hard! What made it even funnier to me is that Bianca says "Don't understand me wrong..." all the time. She definitely understood us wrong that time!
So Beth used what she thought was powder, but it turned out to be bronzer. She had a nice Oompa-Loompa tan! She went Saudi style afterwards. LOL!!
We celebrated Tanya and Mel's birthday!
Fun, fun, fun!
After brunch we picked up our race packets and went back to the apartment for more fun. We were glad that we were all hanging out together because the night before we were told that the girls who stayed at the other apartment couldn't even come up to visit.
Mel is ready!
I absolutely adore this girl!
My absolute favorite Korean Dutch girl!
It was a great day :)
We were up bright and early for the race the next morning.
We were READY!
People who went to the race the year before told us to make sure we went early because the traffic around the Autrodome got really bad. We heard horror stories about people getting out of their taxis and walking to the event because the traffic was at a standstill. Well we heeded their advice and let me tell you, we were early! In the taxi on the way to the event Lina realized that we were getting closer and we were one of only a handful of cars on the road. We started cracking up because we knew we would be opening the race. And we did! We were the first people there...out of 12,000 racers! We even made it there before some of the entertainment and volunteers! Haha!
Getting there first did have some advantages. We got some good pictures at the start line!
Almost time!
Here we go!
Having the race at the Autrodome was awesome! It's a racetrack so we didn't have to worry about traffic or spectators or closed roads.
Here come the colors!
Almost done!
Rainbow row! They threw all the different colors in this tunnel.
We had a blast!
Photo bombers at the finish line!
The fun continued at the after party.
Instead of a medal, they give color packets out at the finish line for you to throw during the after party. If you weren't full of color from the race you definitely were after this!
Dow Wives in Dubai!
We went back to the apartment where we enjoyed sushi, drinks, and lots of girl talk. It was the perfect ending to an almost perfect trip!
Loved this post!! So many awesome memories. I'm going to call y'all the "Gallavanting Gals of Dow"!! :- )
